The Senate voted to adopt the\u00a0proviso to the General Appropriations Bill.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">\u201cFinally the taxpayer will have easy access to see how his or h<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kevinbryant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/hide_money_070920_ms.jpg\" title=\"hide_money_070920_ms.jpg\"><\/a><\/span>er hard earn taxpayer money is being spent,\u201d says Senator Bryant.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">The amendment requires the register be updated once a month and include the amount of the expenditure, name of the payee, and an explanation on the purpose of the expenditure. The register will not include salaries or information that can identify individual employees. The monthly additions to the register must be maintained online for at least one-year.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">Today\u2019s action is similar to the Truth in Spending Act (S.1144) Senator Bryant co-sponsored earlier this year, although the proviso would only be enacted for fiscal year 2008-2009. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kevinbryant.com\/2008\/04\/10\/general-eckstrom-on-bogus-fiscal-impact-study-of-transparency-bill\/\">The State Comptroller General, Richard Eckstrom,<\/a> is currently maintaining similar state\u00a0agency registers\u00a0for little or no additional cost. The comptroller\u2019s office has offered its assistance to local governments to help them fulfill this requirement. Sen.
