Source: WSPA<\/a> Anderson County Council<\/a> passed a tax incentive needed forFirst Quality Tissue <\/a>to locate in Anderson County Friday morning.<\/p>\n

“This is the greatest thing that’s happened in Anderson County’s history. It’s the largest single investment in the county’s history,”\u00a0Council member<\/a>Eddie Moore<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

First Quality Tissue expects the initial operations to commence in 2011 and will begin the hiring process in the third quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n

The company anticipates hiring 200 positions this summer.\u00a0ReadySC<\/a> will assist with hiring and training of new employees for the new\u00a0Anderson County<\/a>facility.\u00a0SC OneStop officials said they didn’t know how much the jobs would pay, but expected the salaries to be varied among positions.<\/p>\n

Individuals interested in applying for positions should visit the\u00a0S.C. Tech Jobs Web site<\/a> at\u00a0in the months ahead.<\/p>\n

In addition to First Quality\u2019s plans to create 1,000 new direct jobs over time, an additional 550 construction jobs will be created to build the facility.<\/p>\n

The official announcement of First Quality Tissue building a plant in\u00a0Anderson County<\/a> – which is expected to bring more than 1,000 new jobs – began at 11:00a.m. at the\u00a0Civic Center of Anderson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Among the factors that attracted First Quality to\u00a0Anderson<\/a> are the pool of skilled labor, positive work ethic and the availability of the infrastructure necessary to sustain our facility,” said\u00a0Frank Ludovina<\/a>,\u00a0company representative<\/a> for\u00a0First Quality<\/a> in a written statement. “As important, however, is the pro-business environment that has been created there.”<\/p>\n

State Senator Billy O\u2019Dell <\/a>— who represents District 4 that includes\u00a0Abbeville<\/a>,\u00a0Anderson<\/a> and\u00a0Greenwood<\/a>counties — said the plant\u00a0will be a\u00a0manufacturing facility<\/a> for products made of paper<\/p>\n

Governor Mark Sanford<\/a> attended the formal announcement Friday morning in the Upstate (read a release from the governor\u2019s office\u00a0here<\/a>).<\/p>\n
