It&#8217;s the largest single investment in the county&#8217;s history,&#8221;\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Council Member\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/position\/tags\/council-member\/\">Council member<\/a><a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Eddie Moore\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/person\/tags\/eddie-moore\/\">Eddie Moore<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>First Quality Tissue expects the initial operations to commence in 2011 and will begin the hiring process in the third quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The company anticipates hiring 200 positions this summer.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.readysc.org\/\">ReadySC<\/a> will assist with hiring and training of new employees for the new\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson County\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/provinceorstate\/tags\/anderson-county\/\">Anderson County<\/a>facility.\u00a0SC OneStop officials said they didn&#8217;t know how much the jobs would pay, but expected the salaries to be varied among positions.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals interested in applying for positions should visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sctechjobs.com\/\">S.C. Tech Jobs Web site<\/a> at\u00a0in the months ahead.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to First Quality\u2019s plans to create 1,000 new direct jobs over time, an additional 550 construction jobs will be created to build the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The official announcement of First Quality Tissue building a plant in\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson County\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/provinceorstate\/tags\/anderson-county\/\">Anderson County<\/a> &#8211; which is expected to bring more than 1,000 new jobs &#8211; began at 11:00a.m. at the\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Civic Center Of Anderson\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/organization\/tags\/civic-center-of-anderson\/\">Civic Center of Anderson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Among the factors that attracted First Quality to\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Civic Center Of Anderson\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/organization\/tags\/civic-center-of-anderson\/\">Anderson<\/a> are the pool of skilled labor, positive work ethic and the availability of the infrastructure necessary to sustain our facility,&#8221; said\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Frank Ludovina\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/person\/tags\/frank-ludovina\/\">Frank Ludovina<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Company Representative\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/position\/tags\/company-representative\/\">company representative<\/a> for\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - First Quality\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/company\/tags\/first-quality\/\">First Quality<\/a> in a written statement. &#8220;As important, however, is the pro-business environment that has been created there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/members\/bios\/1427272556.html\" target=\"_blank\">State Senator Billy O\u2019Dell <\/a>&#8212; who represents District 4 that includes\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Abbeville\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/city\/tags\/abbeville\/\">Abbeville<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/city\/tags\/anderson\/\">Anderson<\/a> and\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Greenwood\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/company\/tags\/greenwood\/\">Greenwood<\/a>counties &#8212; said the plant\u00a0will be a\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Manufacturing Facility\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/industryterm\/tags\/manufacturing-facility\/\">manufacturing facility<\/a> for products made of paper<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scgovernor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Mark Sanford<\/a> attended the formal announcement Friday morning in the Upstate (read a release from the governor\u2019s office\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/news\/2010\/mgmedia\/file\/44\/governors-release-first-quality-tissue\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>First Quality\u2019s Web site states they make products for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adult incontinence<\/li>\n<li>Feminine hygiene<\/li>\n<li>Disposable washcloths<\/li>\n<li>Consumer paper products<\/li>\n<li>Baby products<\/li>\n<li>Bottled water<\/li>\n<li>Engineered Fabrics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Interim County Director\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/position\/tags\/interim-county-director\/\">The interim county director<\/a> pointed out that the facility is not a paper mill, so the odor usually associated with them won&#8217;t be a factor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it\u2019s all said and done, we hope this news will mean about 1,500 jobs for\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson County\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/provinceorstate\/tags\/anderson-county\/\">Anderson County<\/a>,\u201d said Council\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Chairman\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/position\/tags\/chairman\/\">Chairman<\/a> <a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Tommy Dunn\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/person\/tags\/tommy-dunn\/\">Tommy Dunn<\/a>. \u201cWe are excited.\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson County\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/provinceorstate\/tags\/anderson-county\/\">Anderson County<\/a> has had a team working quite some time on this and this lets the state, country and world know that\u00a0<a class=\"topic_link\" title=\"Topic - Anderson County\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.wspa.com\/topics\/types\/provinceorstate\/tags\/anderson-county\/\">Anderson County<\/a> is open for business.
