Web sites Lauded for Transparency<\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span class=\"a-img-bg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"ctl00_ReportDescription_BlogPosts1_ctl00_ctl00_sfReporterPhoto\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thenerve.org\/Images\/kevin_thumb.jpg?resize=176%2C199\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"199\" \/><\/span><span class=\"a-name\">Kevin Dietrich\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thenerve.org\/Comments\/10-03-15\/Two_S_C_Web_sites_Lauded_for_Transparency.aspx?searchid=8a2dd52b-1e82-4ae3-b32c-f1ff889c700f&amp;nocomments=true\" target=\"_blank\">The Nerve<\/a> <\/span><a id=\"ctl00_ReportDescription_BlogPosts1_ctl00_ctl00_hpAuthorBioURL\" href=\"http:\/\/thenerve.org\/Reporters.aspx?rpt=659eb96d-3aa2-46cf-9092-785f75df35a3\">READ BIOGRAPHY<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\">Monday, March 15, 2010<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\">A pair of South Carolina county Web sites have been recognized as being among the best in the nation in terms of transparency.<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\">Web sites for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.andersoncountysc.org\/\">Anderson County<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aikencounty.net\/\">Aiken County<\/a> were each awarded a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/sunshinereview.org\/index.php\/Sunny_Awards\">Sunny Award<\/a>&#8221; from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sunshinereview.org\/\">Sunshine Review<\/a> <span>Thursday.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><br \/>\nAnderson County\u2019s site received an A+ while Aiken County\u2019s site earned an A. Of more than 5,000 government Web sites nationwide, only 39 earned an A or A+.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><br \/>\nGrades are based on Sunshine Review\u2019s\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/sunshinereview.org\/index.php\/Transparency_Checklist\">Transparency Checklist<\/a>,&#8221;<span> which analyzes Web sites for information about budgets, meetings, elected and administrative officials, permits and zoning, audits, contracts, lobbying, public records and taxes.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><span>Anderson County had all 10 areas on its site, while Aiken County had everything but its contracts online.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><span><br \/>\nThe &#8220;Checklist&#8221; measures what content is available on government websites against what should be provided.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><span>Sunny Award winners deserve recognition for making information available to citizens and for setting a transparency standard that all governments can, and should, meet,&#8221; said Mike Barnhart, president of Sunshine Review.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><span><br \/>\n&#8220;Access to information empowers every citizen to hold government officials accountable for the conduct of the publics\u2019 business and the spending of taxpayers\u2019 money,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Official accountability is the cornerstone of self government and liberty.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-author\"><span><span>At the other end of the spectrum, Web sites for Allendale, Bamberg, Cherokee, Laurens, McCormick, Saluda, Union and Williamsburg counties all received failing grades.
