The Lake Hartwell Association<\/span><\/span> along with Upstate Forever and the Pickens Soil and\u00a0Water Conservation District<\/span><\/span> has
\nbeen working hard to remove the third and final dam on Twelve Mile River, and we need your help!\u00a0 We have two
\ntime-bound opportunities for LHA members to voice their support for making this\u00a0project\u00a0a top priority.<\/p>\n

Why is removal of the third dam so important?
\n<\/strong>Because removing the third dam is the only project that will actually\u00a0reduce PCB contamination in Lake Hartwell.
\nLook at the “latest news” items at\u00a0www.lakehartwellassociation.org<\/a>. Read the article by Larry Dyck, an LHA Director,<\/div>\n

and Brad Wyche, director of Upstate Forever, titled “Seize the chance to restore Twelve Mile River watershed.”\u00a0 Also
\nread the excellent Editorial that appeared in the Greenville News on November 3.<\/p>\n

There is almost $9 million in a separate account for addressing the damages caused by the PCB contamination of Twelve Mile
\nRiver and Lake Hartwell.\u00a0 Federal and state\u00a0natural resource agencies<\/span><\/span> are in the process of deciding how these funds should
\nbe spent.\u00a0 The Trustees have listed the removal of the third dam as one of the “unfunded projects,” but this is only their
\nrecommendation which we want to change.<\/div>\n

1)\u00a0 Public\u00a0Meeting<\/strong><\/div>\n
The Trustees have scheduled a public meeting to consider the different proposed projects, including removal of the third dam.

\nThe agencies have also invited the public to provide input through an on-line survey.\u00a0 Please read the following instructions before
\ngoing to the link provided below.\u00a0 You have to answer all the questions on the survey.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Please click “Don’t Support” for ALL of the projects listed in Question 1.
\n2.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Answer “Yes” to Question 2.
\n3.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Answer “Don’t Know” to Question 3.
\n4.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 For Question 4, please write (or\u00a0cut and paste)\u00a0the following sentence in the comment box provided:
\n“I strongly support re-allocating the settlement to pay for the\u00a0entire cost of removing the third dam and providing an alternative
\nwater supply<\/span><\/span> for the Easley-Central Water District.\u00a0 After this project is completed, I would support using the balance of the funds
\nin the settlement for some of the projects listed in Questions 1 and 4.”
