\nREPUBLICAN LIBERTY CAUCUS FILES FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week Greenville County citizens found out that, if the sales tax referendum were to pass in November, they would be subject to a brand new grocery tax. This is in direct contradiction to the assurances given by members of County Council and to the claims made by the SC Realtors Association in a recent mailer.<\/p>\n

What did they know, and when did they know it?<\/p>\n

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Greenville has filed a FOIA request to find out. We have requested all communications by County Councilman Butch Kirven that are relevant to the sales tax referendum and the grocery tax.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have a right to know what it is they are voting on, and whether or not their public officials have been misinforming them, and if so, why,\u201d says Justin Alexander, a member of the RLC and the citizen who filed the request. \u201cAnd we are going to find out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The RLC of Greenville remains committed to keeping the citizens of Greenville informed on this issue, and to opposing the sales tax referendum.<\/p>\n
