petition candidacy only option left

June 7, 2012 by Kevin Bryant

The recent actions by our courts is a suppression of the will of the voters. I sponsored this bill on May 5th but unfortunately it failed.

I also introduced a bill that would eliminate straight ticket voting to take away the advantage partisan candidates have over petition and write in candidates. Unfortunately, this bill never got a hearing. Obviously, the legislature is more interested in protecting its own, than being accountable to the voters.

I encourage all candidates to pursue a petition campaign. Tuesday’s primary is an excellent opportunity to collect signatures to place a candidate on the ballot for November’s election. The candidate’s name would be on the ballot which is much better than a write-in campaign.

A collection of volunteers could be assigned several precincts to ask the voters to sign. Many constituents will sign even though they may not support the candidate simply because people should have the opportunity to run for office.
