Boeing employees deserve more props

November 5, 2009 by Kevin Bryant

I know we politicians like to pat ourselves on the back, and credit is due to the legislative and executive branches for working unusually cooperatively, but we’ve got to give some credit to the hard working employees of Boeing for a move to disband the union back in September. The 74% vote is a strong message!

This feat didn’t make much of a splash in the news, but I’m sure it was a huge factor that attracted Boeing to the SC.

Monday, September 14, 2009 Post and Courrier

Boeing Co. employees vote to disband union

Boeing Co. workers in North Charleston voted overwhelmingly to disband their union in a move that could give the region an edge in landing an aircraft plant the company is looking to build.

Of the 267 ballots cast, 199 were in favor of decertifying the election that made them members of the International Association of Machinists. The company was pleased; the union was disappointed.

The local plant makes rear fuselage sections for Boeing’s 787, a new fast-selling lightweight jet that has been delayed by snags with suppliers and an eight-week strike last year by the IAM.

Boeing has said it would consider North Charleston and its manufacturing hub outside Seattle, among other sites, for a new 787 assembly plant. A decision is expected by the end of the year.

Lake Hartwell Association 10.29.09

November 4, 2009 by Kevin Bryant

Last Thursday, I was able to attend the annual reception and meeting of the members of the Lake Hartwell Association. The LHA is comprised of residents of South Carolina and Georgia interested in proper stewardship of Lake Hartwell.

Obviously, lake levels are the primary concern of the LHA. I gave them a summary of the pending bill in the Senate Agriculture Committee addressing water withdrawal permitting.

Along with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were several other elected officials. Susan Aiken (Sen. Jim DeMint), Janice McCord (Rep. Gresham Barrett), Rep. Jeff Duncan (snapped the ph0to), Rep. Rex Rice, Rep. Don Bowen, & Sheriff John Skipper were present to chat with constituents.

it’s the platform stupid

November 2, 2009 by Kevin Bryant

In a not-so-surprising move, RINO drops out of NY congressional race. Why? Because even if the Democrat wins, the GOP would be embarrassed to place 3rd in a major election.

I don’t get this statement in the article below, “Republican leaders struggle to rebuild, redefine…”

How about using the original party platform; no other party is?

Remember the Reagan tidal wave? Look at his video to your right, the “time for choosing” is as applicable today as it was back then. The Republican brand may be dead, but the conservative message is alive and well!

Republican Scozzafava Drops Out of New York Congressional Race (Fox News)

Republican state Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava has suspended her campaign for upstate New York’s 23rd Congressional District seat, giving a possible boost to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman against Democrat Bill Owens, Fox News has confirmed.

The move comes on the heels of a new poll that showed Scozzafava had fallen behind her two competitors in a close race.

The special election is Tuesday, and political analysts believe upstate New York could be a preview of congressional races nationwide in 2010 and 2012 as Republican leaders struggle to rebuild, redefine and regain control of Washington.
