nfib on o’care

July 29, 2013 by Kevin Bryant

nfibNote to editors: You may use this column in full or excerpt any part of it to use in stories about small businesses and entrepreneurship.

If you are confused about the new healthcare law, you are not alone. Even the folks in Washington who are supposed to be implementing the law are confused. It seems like every week another provision of the law is collapsing under its own weight. The latest is the delay of the employer mandate—(the provision that requires businesses with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees to offer prescribed health benefits to their employees and dependents or potentially pay steep penalties).
Even if you are paying close attention to the latest updates on the law’s implementation, you could have easily missed this one. News of the delay was not formally announced, but quietly slipped into a blog entry of one of the President’s top advisors.

“We’re giving businesses more time to comply,” blogged advisor Valerie Jarrett, who also claimed that the White House is “listening” to small business.

It’s true that extra time to comply with one of the most convoluted parts of the law might provide marginal help to some small-business owners. But delay is not the long-term solution to rising healthcare costs that the small-business community has been asking for. Read on

Rand Paul & Tim Scott attending jDunc’s bbq!

July 28, 2013 by Kevin Bryant

20130728-162852.jpgHey guys,

The secret’s out, our surprise special guest for the Faith and Freedom BBQ this year is Senator Rand Paul! So if you want to join me, Senator Tim Scott, Senator Rand Paul, and hundreds of conservatives from across the state (last year we even had folks from NC and GA drive to the event!!), RSVP as soon as possible.

The cost to attend is just $35 per person, $60 a couple and kids under 12 eat free. You won’t find many events like this with such a low cost to attend; that’s because our campaign has always been powered by individuals like you.

So I hope you’ll be able to come out and support our battle to take this country back. RSVP to Drea Byars (dreabyars67@gmail.com) and be sure to ask her how you can become an event sponsor and attend a private reception with these great guys before the event!

Third Annual Faith & Freedom BBQ with Special Guests Sen Tim Scott & Sen. Rand Paul
Date/Time: August 26th starting at 6:30pm
Where: Anderson Civic Center (3027 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Anderson, SC 29625)

jDunk Bbq August 26th in Anderson

July 28, 2013 by Kevin Bryant

jeff-duncanHey guys,
Wanted to give you a quick update on two things:
1) I just got back from Washington late last night, and had a great time meeting with the Greenville TEA Party in downtown Greenville. We talked about immigration, foreign aid, ObamaCare, energy, and the NSA. For those of you who may have missed it, we had a passionate debate on the House floor this week to place restrictions on what information the NSA is allowed to gather on American citizens. I was only given 15 seconds to speak during the debate, but I used that time to bring up a very important point: the 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution. While I’m sad that the amendment that would have restricted the NSA failed by a vote of 217-205, I’m proud to report that all seven SC Congressmen voted in favor of protecting Constitutional freedoms and to restrict the NSA.
2) I also wanted to let you know that as of today we’re just one month away from our Third Annual Faith in Freedom BBQ in Anderson. The response so far has been overwhelming, and I’ve heard from hundreds of you already who can’t wait to enjoy fellowship and some time with our new US Senator Tim Scott. I also wanted to give you a heads up that we have a very special guest that will also be in attendance who we’ll be announcing very soon! So if you want to attend the event, I would recommend going ahead and RSVPing to Drea Byars right away.
The suggested donation for the event is $35 a person or $60 a couple, and we also need people to be willing to sponsor.
There are two ways to sponsor: You can contact Drea Byars (dreabyars67@gmail.com) to get more details about sponsoring, or you can give us the names of eight people that you’re bringing with you to the event!
We’ll be announcing our special guest on Sunday, so please get back to us soon with an RSVP or risk not being able to get a ticket. I promise you, you won’t want to miss this!!
All the details for the event are below, and as always thanks for your prayers and support.

school choice gets a voice, s.279 gets a sub-committee hearing

July 25, 2013 by Kevin Bryant

schoolchoice1S.279 is a bill that gives universal school choice. This is the exact language that passed the SC House in 2011. A Senate Finance Committee will have a public hearing on this legislation on August 21st at 10:30 am. The meeting will be in room 105 of the Gressette Building in Columbia.

You may remember that this year’s budget contains an amendment that allows for school choice for exceptional needs children. For the first time in our state’s history, some South Carolina students will have school choice. I sponsored and amendment allowing for South Carolina taxpayers to receive a tax credit matching a contribution to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO’s). These SGO’s will offer scholarships to special needs children for up to $10,000 per year. The credit is capped at 60% of their tax liability. The tax credits are capped at $8 million.

All would agree that special needs children’s education must be individualized and this is very expensive. I would like to extend tax credits for school choice to all children in South Carolina. I am confident that when we hear the success stories from children and their parents, we will get the momentum to expand school choice in South Carolina.
