S. 305, is a resolution requesting that no prisoners from Guantanamo Bay be transfered to South Carolina. Unfortunately, the bill was recommitted to committee after a successful Democrat filibuster. 13 (Alexander, Bryant, Courson, Cromer, Davis, Fair, Grooms, Hayes, L. Martin, S. BARRETT CALLS ON GOVERNOR SANFORD TO STOP TRANSFER OF TERRORISTS TO SOUTH CAROLINA
WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC,03) has released the following statement regarding his effort to work with South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford to fight the Obama Administration’s decision to transfer up to 10 suspected terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to Charleston, SC:
“Earlier today, I learned that President Obama intends to transfer terrorists from the detainee facility at Guantanamo Bay to the Naval Brig in Charleston, SC. This decision is deeply disturbing and jeopardizes the safety and security of countless families in South Carolina and across the country. Just moments ago, I spoke with Governor Mark Sanford and urged him to do everything within his power, including pursuing legal action, to stop the transfer of detainees to South Carolina. I am committed to doing all that I can to make certain that no terrorist steps foot on our state soil.”

What logic!
These guys aren’t martians! That can’t walk through walls or bend prison bars. Once they’re locked up and properly supervised they pose no more of a threat to ordinary citizens than any other murderer behind prison walls.
And if you suppose that holding them captive in South Carolina makes SC a target for would-be terrorist then you suppose wrong. NY was attacked long before Guantanamo. The USS Cole harbored no detainees. Marine barracks in Beirut held no captives. Terrorist attack at their discretion not when they are provoked.

It’s funny how you espouse “doing your duty” but at the same time don’t want the state to do it’s duty to house these detainees… I don’t necessarily want them here either but they have to go somewhere and we have a significant military presence that can detain them.

why would so many of your collegues vote to send the bill back to committee?
