Whereas, each year officers from around the nation participate in a memorial ride in Washington, D.C., that also marks the beginning of “National Police Week”; and
Whereas, in 1962 Congress established “National Police Week” and each year names are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, this is a special time to remember fallen officers and to honor those who valiantly served and gave their lives in the line of duty; and
Whereas, it is fitting for the members of the General Assembly to pause and remember the sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day in this State and across the nation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognizing the week of May 11-15, 2009, as “National Law Enforcement Week”.
